[01-Mar-2010] Opel will present the extended-range electric Opel Ampera. The five-door, four-seater Opel Ampera is on schedule to go into production late 2011. It carries the same design DNA as the Astra and the Insignia, Europe's Car of the Year 2009, yet it uses an electric propulsion technology called Voltec. Unlike other conventional electric propulsion systems, Voltec uses electricity as its primary power source and, later, gasoline as a means to generate electricity. This helps the Ampera overcome all issues related to the usual limited range of pure electric cars. Available video includes shots of the new Ampera.
@ answers aid: it is the opposite. it was copletely developed at the ITEZ ( internationales technisches Entwicklungs Zentrum - international Technical developement Center) in Ruesselsheim, Germany. It is built by GM in the US and is sold under Different Labels. Accept it: the First electrical useable Car comes from Opel.

@tinapat06 yeah. This is just like the Chevy Volt except the design is a bit different and it has an Opal logo.

Opel is a sister company of Chevrolet. This car is the same as a Chevy Volt, just with a badge change and a few different styling cues.
