Incredibly, this was the very first hip hop video elected to what was then the newly developed "MTV Breakthrough Video" category. As I was told, when the label found out about their turn of good fortune, they quickly asked that the video be pulled because they disapproved of the final product. It all happened so very fast.

Eventually the music video was re-shot (with someone other than myself), and the newer version of "Brown Sugar" played twice on BET before resting into total obscurity.
