I made this music video as a tribute to Ben Turpin, one of my favorite silent comedians. The video clips come from the movies: A Clever Dummy, The Eyes Have It, Seein' Things, He Looked Crooked, When Ben Bolted, She Said No, A Studio Stampede, Yukon Jake, Why Babies Leave Home, and Keystone Hotel. The music is "What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For?" by Ada Jones and Billy Murray, which is on a Victor Record Co. 78 RPM record (No. 18224-B)

  • The Ben Turpin page is on FACEBOOK, not a website. FACEBOOK is free & has lots of fans of silent comedies, not just on the BEN TURPIN page. I love FB because I met many aficionados of silent comedies....costs nothing to join. BTW, the author of the Turpin bio is the creator of the FB page on Turpin.

  • @TheVirajster Iusually avoid stuff like Facebook, Linkedin, Flickr, etc., but now I might have to look into Facebook afterall.

  • @TheVirajster I just looked on Amazon and I saw a Ben Turpin bio for $56, edited by Delmar Thomas C. Stawart. The book just came out less than two weeks ago at the end of July, 2011. Is this the book you were referring to? The Amazon product description for it states in part "the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online". If so, that seems disappointing.

  • There will soon be a biography book on him by Dec 2010....wonderful montage! Ben will make a comeback like Charley Chase is now...

  • @TheVirajster

Do you have any infomation about the upcoming Ben Turpin biography book you mentioned a few months ago? I have been searching for it, but can find no info about it. Do you have an author's name, title or anything else? I'd love to buy the book when it comes out. I hope it wasn't cancelled or postponed.

  • @DJMChicago

Are you a member of FACEBOOK? I can direct you to the author...there is also a Ben Turpin fanpage....

  • @TheVirajster am not on Facebook. If you have info about a web site that would be great.

  • in 1992 I was walking through the movieland wax museum in Buena Park Ca, and saw a waxwork figure of Ben Turpin, and that's the 1st time I ever heard of him. I was curious and went to the library and found out was a great comic in silent films. I sought out some of his movies and got them on VHS and was glad I did. R.I.P Ben.

  • @DJMChicago There's the long-awaited Ben Turpin biography titled "For Art's Sake" with 275 rare illustrations and just over 250 pages coming from BearManor Media real soon. Loads of never-known info and an easy read, mostly told in Turpin’s own words in a great looking book.

  • DJM: No..that's not the book. Unfortunately the person who said he was working on Turpin's bio is still in progress....check the Turpin page on Facebook....

  • I have him on my youtube page. A great bloke, even if you think he is talking to you, or looking down the road for the next bus that is coming along..

  • Trust me...I had second thoughts of FB but the wealth of info on silent comedies; from Laurel & Hardy to Larry Semon to Ben Turpin. It's worth it! Plus you get to see Ben WITHOUT makeup on that fan page...let me know when you join!!
