That song is so enormous that I get shivers. I'm not sure if he's on something or just on the song if I could say so. It gets ME somewhere for sure... then maybe he feels it many times more when performing it.

Waits is in no danger of becoming a household name. The day every radio is playing Old 55 and I can't go out without hearing someone singing "Better off without a wife"... no, wait. THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! Would you rather have hoi polli thinking that Soulja Boy is the greatest?
Online, criticizing people who's only crime is LIKING THE SAME MUSIC YOU DO. If I lived where people didn't think Waits was weird, or even knew who Burroughs was, I would be grateful.

That is fantastic for you, but not everyone is in a cultured area where they can find these things, or other fans of good music for that matter.
As for me being no Burroughs, I have bean reading beat literature (Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, Vonnegut, etc) for the past 10 years. I have traveled this country east to west with nothing but the shirt on my back (til I got an indecent exposure charge in Kansas and was issued pants) I think I know a little about LIVING and not just the internet.
