looks like we're both right. From wikipedia: In 1984, explicit violence in the PG-rated films Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Gremlins were "the straws that broke the parents' backs".

im pretty sure it was after gremlins, because i believe the first pg-13 movie was red dawn, which was made in the
80s, i think, correct me if im wrong
