sn0wbreeze is a tool to create custom IPSWs to restore, similar to PwnageTool. It is a GUI of XPwn for Windows written in Visual Basic.Net and is developed by iH8sn0w. It is released under GPL v3 license, and its source is available on GitHub

Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1 (9A405)
Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues (as of 2.8b9).
Fixed location services issues with iPhone 3GS users running the iPad baseband (as of 2.8b9).
Re-added iPad baseband install option to iPhone 3GS.
Tethered devices are booted via iBooty which is extracted to the Desktop after running sn0wbreeze.
iPhone 3GS iPad baseband (06.15.00) users: Re-flash the iPad baseband via sn0wbreeze if you restore(d) to a stock 5.0 firmware.

Apple pushed iOS 5.0.1 out to the public. This update fixes the low battery life bug, brings iPad 1 Multitasking Gestures, and comes with small bug fixes. It is recommended to download the .ipsw file with your browser (links below) as to keep a copy on your hard drive but it can also be downloaded through iTunes or with the new OTA Software Update tab in the Settings app.

if you get any errors, before starting to restore your iphone or ipod. open sn0wbreeze and on the left of the top of the window, run: iREB. this will fix your errors.
