"Nothing About Us Without Us: Refugees' Voices About their Return to Burma" is a short documentary highlighting refugees' voices about repatriation from camps along the Thailand border back into Burma.
Featuring interviews with the UNHCR, leading academics, representatives from civil society organizations, and the refugees themselves, the film shows the lack of information currently available to most refugees and outlines the necessity of including refugees in the decision-making and planning processes related to their return to Burma.
A Burma Partnership Initiative. Filmed and Directed by Timothy Syrota.

So UNHCR meets with CBOs and gives them a map and afterwards the CBOs complain that they can't meet with UNHCR and they don't have a map? If refugees are not being given a voice in repatriation that is terrible, but this documentary is a disservice to them.

From the director, Timothy Syrota - it is an interesting - and perhaps sad - footnote to the film that UNHCR requested and were provided with the questions in advance of the interview.

one-sided documentary. Telling the same old story about refugee. Good production, but bad intention. Anyways, it good to see 'romantic VDO' about the hardship of refugee life, which not mentions anything about 'aid dependency' of refugees who have been protracted for over 30 years and don't want to go back to real world.

I'm glad to see this VDO. Thanks BurmaPartnership for making this VDO. Lacking of transparency, repatriation would create a huge human rights problems; as same as the migration of Karen refugees to the third countries: more than 10,000 Karen refugees were migrated to third countries without preparation; and many of them are struggling in those countries because of that. UNHCR did not give clear information for all involved partners which they might could have plan better before the migration. :(

Five years of my life. My heart is still strongly with these beautiful people. I trust that their voice will be heard, and pray that there will truly be a radical shift, and that the current legal frameworks as put in place by the Thai host will be amended to allow for a greater level of self-determination on the part of the refugees!
