In about an hour or two I created my own solar powered pool heater. You just need some PVC Pipe, a solar mat, some brackets to hold everything in place and some time.

If this was interesting or helped you, let me know.

  • Where did you get these mats your using on your roof?

  • @MPDano From a pool catalog. I forget the name of the company. I don't recommend these mats because almost every year they get holes in them and can't be plugged.

Check out my other video. I made a solar heater with PEX tubing, glass and a wooden box. Much more durable.

  • I see a yellow wall of the house........ nice vid... nope.

good for doing the solar project anyways..

  • I'm not sure what you're saying. Want to clarify?

  • How much harder does your pump have to work to pump the water up to your roof?

  • It doesn't seem to work any harder, however the water pressure is not as great when I divert to roof compared to diverting the water directly to the pool. So when you're cleaning, it's better to divert directly to the pool as you'll get more pressure for the vacuuming, using creepy crawly, etc.

One tip would be to make sure the tubes going UP from the pump are on the highest point of the roof, and the return should be on the lowest, that way you have gravity helping on the way down.

  • Go to solarsunpacifc website for best solar pool panel prices. We'll do our best to beat any price.

  • Hi, good video, but do you realise that as long as your pool gets direct sunlight too, you're actually better off just throwing the black tubing straight in the pool. Even better, buy a $10 sheet of black plastic a few rocks and put it in the bottom of the pool. No pump required and all heat transferred diredt to the water.
