Grandmaster Kim, during his recent visit to Korea, indicated most of our students were adults and that Chayon-Ryu teaches us how to win in our lives without fighting. This is quite different from the schools in Korea, where the students are mostly children, and the schools are centered around fighting and tournaments. The people he spoke to in Korea were so surprised and intrigued by this that they sent a staff reporter and photographers to visit us.
On July 13,14, and 15, 2003, Mr. Hong from YTN Korean TV visited Houston to observe and film some of our classes. A special Combined Training Session was held on Monday, July 14th at the Chayon-Ryu World Headquarters. Grandmaster Kim and CYR students demonstrated the true spirit of Chayon-Ryu. It was a very successful evening, and the YTN group were most impressed with our adherence to tradition, etiquette, and practice geared toward peace.

i didnt learn mma. mma isnt effective either. i dont disagree with what grandmaster kim teaches. to get to a 10th degree blackbelt shows enormous dedication but im just saying it doesnt work for real street defense. i learned military martial arts. these are effective. mma doesnt work on the street either. theres a difference between effective reality combat and martial arts. im not dissing grandmaster kim on his accomplishments all im saying is that its not my cup of tea.

No disrespect, but I plan on coming back to CYR after learning BJJ & MThai! After practicing MMA, it seems there is a story to be told and you want to remember it before it passes away.

grandmaster kim is a good martial artist and has a wonderful life philosophy but the style isnt that effective.i took it for 2 years and it wasnt that effective when i needed it. i learned alot from grandmaster himself. they charge alot for their lessons though. been doing martial arts club ever since. its free and i learn what i wanna learn. its effective too. i live in a very rough area of town. grandmaster kim is a great guy though

This is a great video showing the students of all ages (Young and Old) can do Chayon-Ryu! If you notice, most of the students in the video are adults.
