  • Great video. What would happen to the reed if you did use huge amounts of pressure on those last three turns? I'm beginning to suspect I'm doing that to some of my reeds...

  • The reed can turn out ok but it may be an indication of your shaping habits and overall tying length. Tie a bit shorter (0.25 mm) and see what happens. Also examine your process of shaping for consistency.

  • How do you clip some of the tip off of the reed without using a machine?

  • I just use a very sharp razor blade guided by my finger in a left to right motion as if you were cutting a big block of cheese. There should also be a slight degree of angle to the cutting block, not 90 degrees like the machine will give you. Hope that helps!

    The opening looks really big!!

  • These are the Stevens "thinwall" #3. You may need to use a Chudnow mandle to get a snug fit.
