Although Ganesha's facial deformity might cause him to be shunned by other cultures, the Hindus believe that his is a gift from God and revere him. It was our special privilege to get to know Ganisha and his fellow Nagas. We sat under the shade of a banyan tree at their camp site and took chai with them on many occasions. Those lazy afternoons will long remain as some of our most cherished moments of the Kumbh.
Ganesha is a very special holy man of the Naga Indian tribe. Nagas are from an ancient warrior caste of naked spiritual men who live a life primarily unto themselves. The Maha Kumbh Mela festival (the largest religious congregation on earth) is held four times every 12 years and is one of those occasions when the Nagas deign to walk among their fellow Indians. Dressed only is white ash powder and an occasional loin cloth, thousands of Nagas, along with Sadhus, Hari Chrishnas, and Fakirs, dip in the holy waters of the Ganges River along with other devout Hindus. Over the three months of the festival tens of millions of Hindu pilgrims attend the Kumbh . In 2001 the Kumbh in Allahabad attracted 100 million celebrants, equivalent to a third of the population of America!

@pennywisethatclown
Excuse me?
The tune you refer to carries a multitude of lyrics devoted to various sacred places and Deities .
Louise sings the Ganga Mata glorifying the sacred Ganges River. That same tune is sung to Shiva, Ghanesha, etc all with different lyrics.
If you listen carefully the Naga is actually singing alone with Louise using the exact words she is!

Can Ganesha see through the eye thats covered? (obviously if he lifts up the tumor)
jack41401 1 year ago
No, only the eye that is visible.
I spoke to him about taking him to the All India Medical Institute in New Delhi to see about surgery but he is content and would not consider it. Unlike here in America the Indians would try to repair his face for FREE!

@portaltoindia I have seen many stories of people from other countries coming to the U.S. to have major operations to correct things similar to this. In each case, it was done for free by American doctors. If you are referring to India's health care system, nothing is "free". Someone pays for it. Thanks for posting the video.

@jack41401 I agreed totally. You fail to see my point: India is a relatively poor country and in the state of Kerala health care is free and in much of India they try to provide health care to all. We are hypothetically, a very rich nation and our physicians are extremely well paid and can do ‘pro bono publico’ (for the public good’). Please note, if you are an American and have no health care good luck! Any service must be paid for by someone either in monetary units or time.
