Mark is one butt kickin' guitar player! Of course, anybody who gets the privilege of making an album with Chet can't be all that shabby!!

The photo, by the way, is Chet's hand holding up a photo of him and Mark practicing in his kitchen, (snapped by Leona, I'm guessing?) Chet said there was a lot of metal in there, and that made for great acoustics!

Listen as they cut up on Chet's hit, Yakety Axe!

I think Chet was pretty darn proud of this photo, too!

  • Like Earl Scruggs, Chet was a pioneer and inspiration for countless musicians. No matter how many try to copy their styles, each is an original who will never be matched. Mark Knopfler is a great picker too who's able to put a twangy edge on songs he plays. Too bad this isn't a live video.

  • That was very well stated! it's great comments like that that make it worth my time to create this Chet channel,

And Mark is a rare gem among rock guitarists! I LOVE that guy!

  • I never knew there were words to this!! Did Chet Wite them? Anyone?

  • I think the lyrics were by Merle Travis.

  • Amen!

  • I never really paid any attention to Atkins, except for a Dire Straits interview where Knopfler said he heard Atkins listened to some DS and said "Hm, sounds like this kid has heard my music" in reference to Knopfler's playing. You can TOTALLY hear it in this.

  • bubba, good comment.but lol lassic ?i don't like that.it may not be classis like u know or u may never know what really is a classic.so keep on.

  • @hickmusic The sound is great. Some of the Chet stuff with picture has terrible sound. Chet had a liking for his chords to have some distortion in them, and drove those old Valco Gretsch amps a bit too hard for my liking. The TV sound engineering was mediocre at best. Chets guitar playing was so precise & perfect with either a smooth, chicken picken, slur, bend or other sounds. This is a great sounding cut. I can imagine he Les, Merle and Jerry in Heaven. Rest in Peace!? I miss all these guys

  • Even for a T-bone.

  • He is a very big inspiration to everyone. My guitar teacher is a Thumbpicker, and i am working up to it. I can't wait to play something like this.

  • both men are a hugh credit to the craft and humanity. amazingly i love both dire straits and country as well. and try to play a lick every chance i get

  • A W E S O M E ! ! !

  • Nooo!! This was my favorite link in all of YouTube and now it doesnt work! All I get is a black rectangle and it wont play! Curse you YouTube! Can anyone provide a working link to this wonderful version?

  • puttin off things like a shave and a hair cut
