He was a Awesome Talent!!http://www.adherents.com/people/pm/Freddie_Mercury.html

Mercury's parents were both Parsees and devout followers of the Zoroastrian religion, and it was in Bombay that the largest Parsee community in the world was to be found. In the tenth century, after the Islamic invasion of Persia, the Parsees fled to India, where they were free to practice their religion. India had a reputation as one of the most tolerant countries in the world when it came to religion, and in Bombay, with its polyglot population, many of the world's religious groups--Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, and Zoroastrians--lived side by side.
He died in November 1991 and he had a big ceremony held by a Zoroastrian priest (his parents were Zoroastrians too). The ceremony was attended by the band members and Elton John among others. He was cremated at Kensal Green Cemetery and the whereabouts of his ashes are unknown today. Out of his fortune, he left half of it to Mary Austin and the rest was divided among the people closest to him and his family.

  • I respect Freddie a lot for saying he is persian. And its not because im part persian myself. Oh no, its because he never forgot his roots. And I respect people that are true to their roots. Unlike the albanian people who are arabs mixed with chechnyans claiming that they are some old greek people when everybody knows they're not. Freddie didnt forget where he came from, and for that he deserves all the respect.

  • Thanks for the elaborated description. It clearly says, you are from india and now living in the UK. But unfortunately what you are saying is partly wrong. It was not in Bombay, the largest Parsi community in the world. This video is from the Olympic '92 in Barcelona. Please change what you said, Please don't start claiming about him like the other people. Looks too silly.

  • @Iranian127 yes i have seen it ,i went through so many bios on him ,since i allways heard he is persian /parsi ...and i have loved his talent from a little girl ...but then as you say, people called him brittish ..in the country i am in .

  • @TheZibatarinMoosighi

No problem. By the people that try to steal his name i mean primarily the ones that edit in Wikipedia. He is referred to as "British" in his Wikipedia entry. And the "Parsi" entry in Wikipedia has been edited by some racist Indies, whom have put in lies that Parsis are not Persian at all but Indies. Which is of course inaccurate.

  • @Iranian127 thank you for your input ...:)

  • @XxPersianBarbiexX

He was a Parsi born in Zanzibar. Both parents were Parsi. Parsis are the descendants of the Persians who fled the Arab Muslim conquest of Persia.

Basically the two words, i.e Parsi and Persian are synonyms, for Persian is the English word for Parsi.

In several interviews, he himself called himself "Persian". Now many "less gifted people" try to claim him as one of their own: Some Englishmen, Indies and others. So to sum up, he was a full Parsi and a Zoroastrian.

  • such powerful voices....hamid.

  • @fischer3x3 yes ...pure talent :)
