"The Here and the Now" is the title track off of Grammy-nominated Sam & Ruby's Ryko debut and a live version of the track appears on their recent digital EP, Press On.

The six track EP features two unreleased tracks, I Hope Youre Well and Taking Memories, and a new version of their Never Surrender (previously available only as an iTunes bonus track) all mixed by Ed Stasium, along with live versions--recorded for the Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour--of The Here And The Now, This I Know and Heavens My Home.

Sam Brooker and Ruby Amanfu are not the likeliest of musical pairing, but together, they have discovered the power of collaboration.
--NPR "Tell Me More"

Close your eyes and listen intently to the pureness and color blindness of Sam & Ruby's inspirational debut.
--Essence.com

a seductive little gemsounds like a hot, lazy day whose wafting breezes carry intimations of sensuality.
--Country Weekly (four star review)

Truly like nothing I have ever heard...something ethereal, almost spiritual...their undeniable connection transcends their surroundings and stays with the listener.
--Examiner.com

Navigates a wide divide...the seductive soulto the rootsier realms the songs dabble in softer hues, the supple arrangements--vary the shadings and add to the allure.
--Performing Songwriter

You get a sense of life... every little piece adds to the greatness of the bigger picture... never leave you wanting more except for more of Sam & Ruby themselves.
--Beyond Race

...These self-professed musical soul-mates certainly make a one-of-a-kind pair. Their song Heavens My Home (featured in the film The Secret Life of Bees) stitches together folk, soul and a pinch of country in an effortlessly unique, ear-catching way. "

  • Beautiful voice, not really my style of music but can still appreciate it. I'm here cos of Jack, no mistake getting her on his record, her right eye is really weirding me out though aha.

  • Found this after listening to the new Jack White single that dropped yesterday. Found out Ruby Amanfu did the backing vocals so led me to this.

She certainly stands on her own. Beautiful voice. Kind of like Corrine Rae Bailey but much better.

Now I have to go buy some Sam and Ruby music!

  • @twins2able actually, in an interview sam said that was the first song they wrote together

  • @zio5q nope they're good friends

  • i absolutely love them

  • @RM23RM23 Have you heard This I Know?

  • This is beautiful :-)

  • @RM23RM23 you know Ruby wrote this song.

  • Are they actually a couple?

  • I saw Sam perform this song with Kim Collins in Sikeston, MO, about 5 or 6 years ago. I love Kim, but this song was meant for Ruby. The "Rome wasn't built in one day so I'm not trying to say, that we'll be best friends right away" line gave me chills that night and still does today. Congrats to both Sam and Ruby on their success.
