On Saturday, August 20, 2011, the California Range Riders/WSSA held the Open Range VIII Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition at the John Hogan Horseman's Arena in Novato, CA.

Unbenownst to many of the competitors that day was the fact that Cowboy Mounted Shooting's Overall World Champion - Kenda Lenseigne - was going to be riding along beside them all afternoon.

This was not just some promotional event/activity for Kenda. She is a true horsewoman, rider, shooter and lover of the sport who was as ready as anyone to compete and do what she does best - set new course records.

Paul and Diane N. Ennis were there to film some of the action including these three runs by Kenda and her horse Harley. This brief video is intended to capture the spirit and the high level of energy - yes, the love of the sport - that everyone in the CRR/WSSA brings to the arena each and every week of the season.

Thank you Kenda - it was a treat beyond measure to see and experience you at your best!

Cowboy mounted shooting is an exciting equestrian sport in which competitors wearing two single action .45 caliber revolvers, race against the clock through a gymkhana-type course while firing at balloon targets. This sport requires the ability to control the horse through many turns and speed changes while cocking and firing the revolvers, holstering one when it's empty, and then drawing the other to complete the course of fire.

Kenda Lenseigne, Overall World Champion, Overall National Champion, four-time World Point Champion Cowgirl, and holder of six World Records, is one of Cowboy Mounted Shooting's most renowned competitors across the nation. In 2009, Kenda became the first woman in CMSA history to win the Overall at a World Championship, beating all of the men and women to claim this prestigious title. Just 6 months later in April 2010, she again made history by becoming the first woman to win the Overall at the National Championship. Not only is Kenda one of the top competitors in the sport, but she also is a highly respected horse trainer and riding instructor. Clients come from all points of the United States to train with her. When not on the road for mounted shooting, she divides her time between her training facilities in Washington during the spring and summer, and Arizona during the fall and winter.
