Here's a clip from our gig at The Cellar (Vancouver, BC) where we played a couple shows of contemporary New Orleans brass band songs, adapted for a smaller group and with the addition of B3 organ. This song, called "New Funk," is by The Stooges Brass Band.

The "Theme Party" band includes: Chris Gestrin (B3 organ), Chris Davis (trumpet), Rod Murray and Steve Mynett (trombones), Joe Poole (drums), Jack Duncan (percussion), and myself on clarinet.

  • I'm pretty sure I was at this gig... did you play Portrait of Mahalia Jackson? I remember being very moved by it and I wonder if there's any chance you have the recording of that piece?

  • @mrsbike Thanks, yes we did play that tune. Planning on recording in the Spring '12, however you can find Duke's original recording of that piece on the album entitled "Duke Ellington: The New Orleans Suite." It's a fantastic album.
