LinuxMCE provides a complete phone system based on Asterisk, and embeds a soft phone into each and every media director. Using a Phoenix Solo USB Microphone and a set of speakers, you can create an effective speaker phone system that provides rock solid audio fidelity and a microphone pick-up range of roughly 10' square from where the microphone is placed. This was a quick demo, so I apologise for the shaky camera and improvised dialogue. Enjoy.

  • I have ooma voip service (which has no monthly charge, its one time fee of $249.99 for lifetime service!). Can Linux MCE implement it? thanks for your work and time.

  • If the VOIP service implements SIP in a standard way, you can set up the account within the web admin. We merely have pre-defined templates for a few US based services such as BroadVoice which are even easier to set up.

  • Awesome setup!

Is it really this easy? You are using the default settings of Astrisks and you are only using your internet connection? So it's completely free of charge?

  • I live in the US, and use Broadvoice as my VOIP provider. I'm using the BYOD plan at $9.95/mo, and specifying Asterisk as my setup. Yes, this works over the Internet connection.

The microphone I am using is a Phoenix Solo USB microphone, at $129.95 from Hello Direct. You need one for each media director in the house.

  • sigh. Read the comments, this has been answered before!

  • What are you using for the orbiter?

  • It is a DT Research WebDT 366. You can get these from tkmedia in the forums.

  • "the art of getting dirty!" XD Hehehe...

  • i think linux mce is amazingly cool, but dont have the time or money (ironic as its open source) to set it up (oh and epic camera shake btw ;)

  • thanks for the description of the USB, that really helped ;)

  • Thanks for the information! Your videos are quite good, when I've the room then I'll most likely create a Linux MCE environment.

It really looks like something that isn't suppose to exist yet, it's quite futuristic

  • can you tell me the make and model of the orbiter touch panel you are using thanks
