The reason Love Hewitt has problems with male relationships is because her father left the family when she was a kid and has not been involved in her life, so she has a great fear of rejection and this plays out in all her male relationships. Subconsciously she doesn't want her father to leave her again, so she sabatoges the relationships before being hurt.
