@AcomsRazor1776 So you're comparing an NA engine with lower displacement to a higher displacement turbo engine and the only difference is 15Hp? What kind of horsepower do you think those carbs making 170hp NA on an engine with .4 L less displacement would make on a L28 with a cartech turbo system?

When it comes to the 80's a slight step back can net you performance gains.

An N/A L28 has just as much Displacement as a Turbo L28, they are both 2.8 liters. There are far more effective means of increasing HP than doing a carb swap. A carb swap is definitely a step back with far more cons than pros. Throwing an NA N42 head with F.I. on an 80's flat top piston short block will net you HP close to a stock turbo L28

@LLC0104 yes, yes, yes! And Like I said those engines are built by people with thousands of dollars at their disposal. And Built By professional shops that have decades of experience. They are not built by your local average Joe car enthusiast. The Kind of Engine you are talking of would take the Average person years to build. And even still you are still only comparing it to the average FI build of 30 years ago and not a modern setup with equal amount of work and money poured into it.

@AcomsRazor1776 Like I said originally, it's already been proven and it kinda goes like this. 2.8L f54 block, a p90 or n42 head w/ modified Sus (better needles) or tripple Mikunis, Solex, or Webers in that combo beats FI. Most people in SCCA are still doing this today. The Japanese do this best as there are 3.1 litre carbed L6s yielding over 350 hp on Youtube. I'm done!

@LLC0104 #1 The Original argument was about someone putting Carbs on an L28 in order to boost performance.

#2 All L28's came from the Factory with FI. Putting carbs on an FI L28 engine for the purpose of "increasing HP" is Bass ackwards due to the fact that Stock FI L28's already make more horsepower then Stock Carbed L26's or L24's. The displacement may .4 liters more but that difference is almost negligible.

#3 Putting Cabrs on a FI engine isn't vintage it's modding.

Clearly there are some who wish to simply tune vintage sports cars, not drop the latest and greatest tech into them. That's what makes them vintage.

@LLC0104 You are talking about professionally race tuned carbs from the 1970's vs early style fuel injectors from the mid 70's from a stock engine. This is 2011 going on 2012. there are far more effective and modern day means of modifying and programing the fuel injection today then there were 35 years ago. Messing with carburetors is nearly a lost art in this modern day. Only in multy million dollar auto sports are carbs still widely used.

@AcomsRazor1776 because modified SUs or Mikuni triples outperformed FI. It's been proven on the track. Perhaps ITBs might be an option but they weren't available then.

@280zx2by2  (continued) that's a stock head on a stock block with stock FI.. going back to carbs might net you close to the same but at the expense of loosing close to 6 MPG, too much of a conto vindicate it.
