On May 18, 2011, space shuttle Endeavour performed the Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver, or "backflip." With Commander Mark Kelly at the helm, Endeavour rotated 360 degrees backward to enable International Space Station astronauts to take high resolution pictures of the shuttle's heat shield

  • @3333willie

maybe to check all of the heat shield

  • I'm not sure why the need for a Rendezvous Pitch Maneuver. If it's about showing off, that I understand but if it has a practical use, that use eludes me.

  • @andysim232 i kno i was about to say they need a rollbar

  • I think I saw my house at 2:32, but I'm not sure. The car in the driveway didn't look right!

  • The sequence along with the outline of the Shuttle's bottom surface reminded me very much of the passenger shuttle docking maneuver in the 2001 Space Odyssey movie. Pity they didn't throw in a few rolls along the longitudinal axis!

  • lol, the turn brought the shuttle in the same exact position as before. ;)

  • appears to be in 'real-time'....is it?

  • Thats the slowest loop I have ever seen
