Yesterday i saw a video of David "Fingers" Haynes and i was very impressed. So me and a good friend of mine found the akai mp16 in my room which i have never really tried. so we jammed with guitar and the pad and i was impressed how easy it is to use it with garageband and how awesome the drumsounds are. long story short i made a short movie about me testing the akai mpd16. i play it for the second time so please don't expect to much!
My image is just a spacer to synch the video and the track!

  • dude please help! how did you get the mpd to work with garageband?? i plug it via usb and the red lights on the mpd light up but garageband doesnt even detect the mpd. and its weird, the other through some magical fuckin fluke i got it to work, something popped that said "number of midi whatever has changed" then it was detected in the midi preferences. but i have no idea what i did! and i've been trying and trying but its not working again.

  • @JosephCee first of all you should install all the applications the mpd is shipped with. next there should popup a window if you plug it in while using garageband that there are some midi channels available. have another look at your configuration in Mac OS. maybe your mac didn't recognize you plugged in your pad? just add a new virtual instrument drumtrack and try to hit some of the keys on the pad. if everything is configured well you should hear something. oh and change to maximum velocity.

  • no you just need to connect via usb ;-)

  • I used USB. I thought about connecting and cascading my old E-Drum in order to get a hihat control or kick drum separated from the pad. but I've never had the time to test it. USB worked fine for me.

  • okay here's what i did. i plugged in the akai, chose the Rock or Pop Drumkit from garageband and that's it ;-) works out of the box.

  • thx ;-)
