ATHETOSIS--Athetosis is a continuous stream of slow, sinuous, writhing movements, typically of the hands and feet.

Top Comments

  • well,it is a good learning strategy but the patient's identitiy should be masked and the patient should be adressed with respect:)

    thanks

  • Fantastic example, but do you not think that the patient deserves some respect and dignity?

If you knew you weren't able to blurr his face you so easily could have shot the video WITHOUT showing his face. Surely how hard can that be?

  • please respect his individuality for allowing you to film him, by not making fun or joking about him. secondly please blur his face if you cant control your remarks while filming.really sad.

  • Awesome video, first year medical student in the states and they mention it all the time in neuroscience but I was having a difficult time imagining what this looks like. Thank you very much.

  • @cgoverland69 Hahahaha! :)

No worries! Your English is quite terrible. By terrible, I mean horrendously awful. :)

  • good learning

  • @bute007 i am sure he gave consent and you cant like the video with a name so it is fine... Its not disrespectful bc it is an educational video

  • thanx por posting, 6. years in uni and have never seen any patient with athetosis

  • Basal ganglion lesions in the perinatal phase are mostly the reason for athethosis, tourette or choreatic dyskinesises. There are also many syndromes (it's what you said Lesch-Nyhan for example) genetic defects that are responsible for those dysfunctionalities.

Also extrapyramidal (non-corticospinal) unfunctionalities can be the reason for those symptoms.

Please forgive my english, it's not so good.

  • So much better than words, combination of this and choreiform movements can be seen in Lesch-Nyhan. Other than that, I just think basal ganglia lesion for this alone.
