  • There may be several inadequacies with the Soviet administration or with the communist economic model itself. But one thing cannot be disputed - the soviet rule brought order and established the rule of law ......and it is not so easy to do that over such a vast expanse of territory. That itself is commendable

  • @Shukria123 how true, but i love my country! i never really cared who ran it.

  • CCCP HABEKA !

  • @CharlesVariations Sorry. I was just interjecting to point out some of the nuance that's often missed when people discuss Soviet era history. I wasn't really agreeing or disagreeing since you were just stating observation as you said.A lot of people would say that most people living happier didn't make up for government abuses.Since most government abuses on both sides were related to east-west conflict,I'm saying things would have been even better without the cold war as all,

  • @CharlesVariations

It began on a more global scale after WWII. But even upon its founding the US recognized the soviet's "agenda" if you will, as threatening to the capitalist agenda, Pres. Woodrow Wilson refused to recognize them, and even Western forces, US included were sent to try and sabotage the Soviet state. That's in a little lesser known history.

  • @CharlesVariations

However, yes, you are right, things could have been much better with out the cold war, but is such a thing possible? The Soviet state was initially founded upon world revolution, (later settled on co existance with existing imperial forces, West, US) and its values were far different from that of the capitalists, they threatened the capitalists, so the conflict between the two were inherent. The true cold war began with the founding of the soviet state, it began on a more

I agree with you on everything you said, my friend. Truth is, I'm not sure whether you're arguing against me or not, because in all honesty, everything you said had virtually nothing to do with what I had said. I didn't mention the cold war nor say that the West and East was better off under the cold war, I simply said life was better under former Soviet Union, for quite a few people I've talked to, many that were non party members, nor related to govt. officials, might I add.

  • @ghos7bear Do you think rampant consumerism and selfishness is the current state of democracy? I think democracy will only work if were enlightened enough and if there's a balance between our sense of individuality and community.
