On the 9th November 2007, Brian Haw was allowed to take inventory of his display and of his and other people's possessions taken illegally by the police. Although Brian won a court case stating that the display was taken illegally, he has not been allowed to have his display back.

  • Isn't that a Banksy work? The first bit? Is that Banksy's real name, Brian Haw?

  • Hi! Yes it is a painting by Banksy, it was given to Brian and then stolen by the police (long story!). If you would like to check out Brian's website it is parliament-square org uk

  • YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX!!!!

  • i originally filmed the cops taking this stuff at parliament square in march 2006 ('socpa - the movie'). very moving to come across this the day after mark wallinger won the turner prize for his recreation of original - 'state britain'

police acted illegally removing the display. the law they used, "socpa", doesn't proscribe the process for authorisation and conditons, so the police just made it up. how are we to know what to do when the police are given such unfettered powers?
