Isn't it funny how the simplest of concepts can bring back such a vivid memory. I remember watching this when I was a kid, too, and even though this is so simple it works so well. To me, it's like the shapes are communicating with each other and then celebrating. At least thats the kind of memory I am associating with my childhood! Nice find!

Wow- I had totally forgotten about this, until hearing the sound effects- especually the quadruple emphasis on the completed pattern... "DUN DUN DUN DUN... DA DA DA DA!"

@MIKECNW: I don't have the other versions, but I've seen them often enough to wonder where they went. That "DING DING DING DING...dah dah dah dah" motif at the end of each new grouping made those sketches stick in my memory, all right!

Wow! This one is old but I can remember it. I also remember understanding the three differences in each group (color, shape and size). Apparently, Sesame Street seems to occasionally air some classic S.S. skits but it's VERY rare nowadays. I bet you recorded this in the mid 90's.
