24 hours Vancouver was first to report that an avalanche of snow, ice and slush tore a hole in B.C. Place Stadium's fabric roof on Jan. 5, 2007. Almost a year later on Jan. 3, 2008, two reports concluded the snow melting system would've prevented the dome disaster. They also debunked the "perfect storm" theory of general manager Howard Crosley. NDP critic Norm Macdonald says Crosley and minister responsible Stan Hagen should be held accountable for the year-long cover-up at the future Olympic stadium. Crosley was reluctant to use the steam system for fear of eroding his frugality bonus.
A Vancouver landmark, one of the only last surviving air domes in the world, crushed to look like everyone else and replaced with an ugly retractable roof. Yaaay Vancouver ... dont stand out when you can blend in

This is story is dumb. Every similar stadium to BC Place (Metrodome, Silverdome, RCA dome) had similar incidents due to snow loads, severe thunderstorms. The room is designed to deplated slowly to allow escape if occupied.
