I changed the head on my 850 the timing belt broke while I was driving it. I replaced the head and did all of the work myself last week. I got it back together and got it running, but it's had a misfiring problem and the exhaust is leaking. I can both hear it ( very obvious in the video) and can smell it a little in the engine compartment. It's also down on power by a very noticeable margin. What could be causing this to happen?

My neighbor says it sounds like it's not timed correctly. Could I have timed incorrectly by one tooth on the exhaust camshaft? Will an engine even run if it's timed incorrectly by just a little bit? Please help. I need my car running correctly soon.

  • have you fix this problem?

  • @luvmyPT92ss yeah it's been fixed. My mechanic looked at it and realized that 2 of the exhaust ports had 2 spacers each on them, instead of one. So there was a gap between the head and manifold. And the misfiring was due to a bad injector.

  • step 1: Check your timing. (if good then..) step 2: Adjust your valves (It sounds like you have an exhaust valve that's not seating properly) step 3: check if all cyls are fireing correctly. if that doesn't work buy a toyota

  • The volvo 850 will start and run with up to 2 teeth incorrectly alligned. check if you did align it properly. If you didnt fix it already :)
