Cod Wars on HMS Tartar

Cod Wars - a series of 3 confrontations at sea between 1958 and 1976. This unique video footage was shot aboard HMS Tartar. In these 'wars' Iceland stopped British trawlers from catching fish in waters it claimed to own by sending gunboats to cut the nets of British trawlers of to arrest them. Every time that Iceland did this, the Royal Navy was sent to protect the trawlers. This resulted in clashes between the British warships and the Icelandic gunboats. Very few shots were fired, but a number of ships on both sides were rammed leaving them badly damaged.
 Only one person was killed during these 3 wars, an Icelandic sailor who was electrocuted in an accident on his gunboat in 1976.
