  • Bambaataa was almost right when he said the powers that be let the gangs continue because they wanted them to kill themselves. The real reason was that they needed the gangs to continue to keep white people afraid. You keep white people afraid and they start agreeing to all sorts of liberty-taking, e.g. CCTV cameras everywhere.
