  • @you831able thanks

  • @failurbanik I'm going to use this on other threads if you don't mind... Well said!

  • Obama creates and passes policy, with a snap of his fingers? The house and the senate submit to his every whim? So then, a woman (not born with beauty or family money) should pay the same percentage of her paycheck as (for example) her employer pays for shoes? And my thinking makes me a liberal socialist. For crying out loud, are you really ok with GE paying 0?

  • The super rich will increase the prices of goods sold to the poor... Then the poor won't buy goods as often... Then the super rich won't make as much money... Then the gov't will get less money in tax revenue... Then they will claim that we need to tax more... Then the super rich will just leave to a country that has lower taxes. This isn't partisan, this is logic! If trickle down doesn't work, how can trickle down through the gov't work?

  • if your heart says to help the poor them why don't you do it? why do you need the government to force it. and by the way christians and republicans donate more to charity then liberals do.

  • Poster, first you have to understand the only way the government can take money is litterally at the point of a gun. Also, by mear happenstace of birth does NOT create an obligation from one citizen to another. If you think wealthy or well off Americans should take care of the less fortunate, you are infact an advocate of slavery where the poor are the masters and the rich the servents and teh government through its laws are the slave traders..

  • The government is not a charity and even if it was, it cannot accomplish charitable works without taking money from people by force or threat of force. The government, of itself, does not produce wealth. It can only redistribute it and in a way that allocates capital away from productive channels, which is what creates new wealth. It's not that we lack compassion for the poor, but the government is a poor means of re-allocating wealth.

  • Here's what's logical: If you says it's not right for those less fortunate than you to do without, why not give them your money directly? Why are you looking for the government to do that for you and also take from others to do that as well? Look at what the government spends money on in terms of what it takes from you in taxes. Where does the lion's share go? Not to the poor, not by a long shot. Excluding Social Security, which people pay into. The lion's share goes to military spending. (more)

  • If you want to help the "less fortunate" then do it by giving to charity. That is YOUR choice. It is not the legitimate role of government to engage in charity, and it is certainly not a legitimate role for it to force me to engage in charity. Equality under the law demands an equal tax rate, And, you don't make taxation policy with your "heart". You do with charity, and your own money, not with someone else's.
