Just a small point or two. Butterworth was an RAAF base on mainland Malaya opposite Penang Island. RAF aircraft supported the RAAF Sabres there. The only RAF base on penang was an R&R holiday village at the Beach of Passionate Love.(local name !!) . 60 Sqn was based at Tengah. And Singapore was not 'on mainland Malaysia' as it is an Island itself.

Hi my dad was also a Navigator in Kuching and Labuam on 60Sqnd Stationed at Tengah. I have v.happy memories and at the time totally unapreciative of the place we were in. I now realise just how lucky we were!!!

I was at Tengah 1965-1967. I was on 81PR Sqdn. We operated Canberra PR7's.
Up the line from us was 45 Sqdn, the had Canberra B9's.
Then there was 60 and 64 Sqdns operating Javelins and 20 Sqdn with Hunters.
These were great days.

Wonderful memories. I was at Tengah, ('63 - '66) in ATC and the War Room. 60 and 64 Sqns, Javelins and 20 Sqn Hunters, 81 Sqn Canberras (Sunshine Airways - they had a contract with the Indonesian Gov't to do aerial survey flights !) I was rotated to Labuan where the Javs and Hunters had a detachment. What a magical place Borneo was for a young 19 y/o lad who had barely been out of Coventry.

My dad was at Kuching at that time. Stationed at Tengah and seconded for a spell during the time of the video. I was just a girl enjoying the sunshine and lazing around the Tengah pool. Happy days!! Thanks for upoad.

Did anyone know my grandfather
Flight Lt B. Harris?

Heard that Butterworth Airbase will in the near future be turned into a Civilian Airport.
I remember hearing Javelins night flying from RAF Odiham in the late fifties, with a most distinctive sound. Does anyone know if there are any sound recordings of Javelins available anywhere?

Nice to see this video, I'm a Malaysian that born in 1964 so I have no chance to
see all this marvelous aircraft, namely my favourite Lightning, Javelin even Hunter.
After RAF withdrawal from Malaysia, Buttterworth was become RAAF Base until
the end of 80's. But I did saw a pair of Mirage IIIO flypast kuala Lumpur City in 70s. Now Butterworth AB still a base for RMAF MiG-29, Hornet and Hawk.
