This is the fifth part of Alfonso series on organic farming. The plants are growing! The vines are beginning to spread. Any day we should have flowers and that means watermelons. So far, we have not used a tractor, a tiller, chemical pesticides or fertilizers. So what's our overhead? How much are we in debt to the bank? How much of the sale of each watermelon will be profit? But more importantly, how will they taste? And have we harmed the topsoil at all?

  • Fertilizer makes the plant sweet. Do chemical fertilizers work the same way on other vegetables? Your soil looks very rich.
