At the beginning of the video you can clearly see the linked rubber band is hanging off the one lying in his left hand. It is hidden behind his hand, but you can see a small bit of it that is linked. I'm sure all he does at :07 is drop the regular one in his right hand and shows you the linked ones.

Look at 0:04-0:06. I see second rubber BEHIND open hand and cross with rubber ON open hand.
