i never followed the mel gibson thing so i dont have an opinion but what i take this to mean is joan can insult whoever she wants by what they wear, how they act or possibly what stereotypical nationality they are but no-one else can... ofcourse its ok if its for a comedy routine... i think whoopi had guts. to be friends with somone doesnt mean you have to agree with each thought they have.

Joan Rivers is entitled to her opinion and for all I know she's even correct about it, but Whoopi said what she thought right back to Joan, when Whoopi knew it wasn't going to be popular.
