@bobsdadsbird for a man considered the most respected public intellectual in academia he is certainly not above criticism. Also I believe it illustrates the man's preconceived notions of power relations, human nature, and societal structure prevents the man making the most basic moral distinctions.

@mikejpete your comments get removed? anyway sex for money is what were talking about here, not private sex in general, you seem to want to merge the 2 pretending it's the same, ignoring the practices of industry in reality. the majority of girls are in it for the easy money and are exploited. others take advantage of easy money and therefor enjoy it, after all its a job, all this suggests degrading. it's a matter of values as you illustrate by agreeing to certain aspects you wouldn't support.

@architect333 sex for money is not what I said and you know it. I said sexual expression, many get off and are paid for it, is it really that complicated? Imagine telling a music artist getting paid for making music is exploitation. Sex is an art just like love is and they don't always have to be synonymous. "degraded in almost all porn" many of the up and coming producers and directors are women actually. They love what they do and they love that they get paid doing it.The best are clean.

I think you might be confused with what the majority of porn is all about. women are degraded in almost all porn to arouse man's lust of power over her in order to make profit. Girls are used like china factory workers, some are successful. The industry is surrounded with alcohol,drugs,nightlife, all possible on an easy buck, there are videos on love making,teaching,education, not even considered porn.

How is it degrading to you if it has nothing to do with you? As society becomes more liberalized, more and more couples have become open to watching this degrading thing together and learning. It just depends on your point of view. There are plenty of porn genre's that I would never look at or defend.

@mikejpete As I said, it's about values, not rights, as far as I'm aware, porn's legal almost everywhere, what value does the exploitation of sex bring to society? it treats women like sex objects and goes directly against the values produced by higher mental faculties such as intimacy, connection,love, respect for the human body. This is degrading to those who want to uphold these values and treat humans on another level, as for those who don't care, "it's their problem." I think that's fair.
