These techs screwed up. They should have checked the bios. Idiots.

The ignorance of these reporters when it comes to computer repairs on all of these investigative reports is amazing. Like if a tech is supposed to know right away that the bios is off when it says "no OS found" when every tech knows the most common reason that error message would appear is because of a bad HD or corrupt OS.Bad reporting like this will only make the public become more impatient with there repairs and expect quick easy fixes when they see that error on there screen.

Its a bit unfair to base the quality of a service as a whole on one store. Of course this frame of thinking does net you ratings, bashing companies and making simple mistakes seem like treason does.
I will be fair, as a technician you should always eliminate the easiest problems no matter how insignificant they may seem at the time. Always check the BIOS! I have had many customers complain that their pcs wont boot and come to find out that they screwed with the bios for god knows what.

i'm not surprised that they thought the hard drive was bad but they should think bios is bad and/or the battery is dead or it may have raid drivers in it or bad install on hard drive. BUT if they went to go boot off a bootable disk they whould have knowticed

I would always say check BIOS first in something like that but I must admit that if you arent very experienced, the only real way that your BIOS will change on you is if 1) the CMOS battery is low, 2) You just imaged the computer or 3) you just flashed the BIOS... so i can kind of understand if they didnt find it straight off...

Compusa FTW!!!
Dishonest journalism. OS not found in 9 times out of 10 points to bad hard drive or corrupt OS. If they would have checked it in for a full diagnostic it would have been found by all three more than likely. BIOS settings don't just turn off themselves. If I honestly figured out that it was a bios setting on the spot I'd be suspicious of being played.

So sick of these "investigations" where they create a completely illogical problem (BIOS that changes all by itself, how cute) and "catch" the local technicians all off guard by forcing them to quickly take an educated guess before actually having an opportunity to fully look into the issue.
The quick diagnosis of a bad hard drive is VALID. The quick diagnosis is not the one that would be used to fully determine the problem, however, and is completely irrelevant. Give me a break.
