No vsync patch for this one, but it's still available at http://coolier.sytes.net:8080/th_up3/file/th3_8419.zip. Will it make the difference? Install, and find out!
My first Lunatic clear from back in December '09. The first game I played back when I was checking out the series. This run is old and embarrassing, but I figure there's enough challenge runs uploaded and this can serve as a decent tutorial, as there's a lot of mistakes followed immediately by the proper method.
It's also an example of how much they let you screw up. Don't throw away your runs after stage two, kids!
Stage one is, as always, mostly throwaway enemies and semi-random bullets. Using the path presented here, though, you can reach full power before the beginning of stage 2, saving a little bit of bullet-weaving and the stress that comes with it. Big points on that are: Do well at the beginning section with the green bullets, bomb to kill and collect from the pre-Cirno fairies, and don't rush to kill the second big fairy at the end.
Letty shows us the first example of a big step for the series: Boss manipulation. Post-EoSD, the boss will float in your direction, preventing corner trapping and/or humping. Because of this, there's now the added layer of strategy in manipulating their bullets. Naturally, movement will change the pattern that they shoot slightly. Letty's last card, for example, will shoot a laser directly at you if you let her move left first. Try and keep an eye on the way I make the bosses move, and if the pattern seems significantly easier for it I probably did it on purpose.
Stage two holds Chen, the Black Cat of Ill Omen slash adorable little ball of fur. She's the first example of "real" danmaku, and a fair challenge on Lunatic. The stage itself isn't very noteworthy - lots of swarms, a couple of chances for extra graze that you don't need to worry about if you're watching this. The first example of what not to do here is autocollecting after her first card, which as you can see is possible but very risky. For her second, there are some very clear openings that I take which can be hard to see if you're panicked and not looking at the entire path of the card. On her third, just try to maintain damage flow and keep your finger on the bomb key. There's no way that I know of to make it any easier.
This turned out to be a decent run for the first two stages - the real fun starts at stage three.
@calvinruin Look at the very very first second, pause. You will see "Lunatic".
