Hi there. I was wondering how long the coal fire lasts for before it self extinguishes.
Thanks

Man...you put that cross on ebay, list it as virgin mary appears in flaming cross, post your video, and cut and paste some scripture onto the page. Offer to donate 50% of proceeds to a local youth organization or African bible thumping team. See if you can get a local news channel to run a piece on it. Could be the next $28,000 "cornflake". Won't catch me buying it...but then again, I'm not religious.

SImple yet effective setup. Thats how I started. But you may want to be careful pouring that aluminum in wet dirt. Or at least it looked when you poured those crosses which turned out cool. You run the risk of a steam explosion.

@DrFrankensteam We had a mini steam explosion. Thanks for the warning.

For the small amount you melted here, add a pinch of table salt (Sodium Chloride) and stir the Aluminum. This will degas it, and drive any Hydrogen coming off of it, to the top. Then add a pinch of Sodium Carbonate( Baking soda that has been baked at 400 F) Regular Arm and Hammer out of the box is still Bicarbonate and won't react quick. Soda separates slag. That crap you scooped out in the beginning was called Dross. Once the slag has been pulled out, the aluminum flows like water while hot.
