On July 5th, AIC visited the Palestinian National Theatre, Hakawati, to inquire with its Director, Jamal Ghosheh, the question of the theatre being shut down.
Hakawati has been hosting performances and been a hub of theatre activity in Jerusalem for more than 25 years. While it continues to attract artists, youth and audiences, Hakawati endures its tenure under Israeli occupation.
Anticipation for an upcoming dance performance of breakdancing and traditional Palestinian dance, dakba, fills the theatre foyer and parking lot. While preparation is underway and the show is soon to start, there is suddenly an interruption.
