Qassam The Movie (Teaser)

On September 30, 2004 Talam Tafra's family were huddled in their Sukkah in the city of Sderot in Israel. A sense of festivity spread throughout the temporary dwelling as family and friends celebrated one of the most joyous holidays in the Jewish calendar. At the same time in the Palestinian city of Bet Chanun, a few hundred meters away, a Hamas terrorist launched a Qassam rocket. Just outside their grandmother's Sukkah, four-year-old Yuval Ababa and his two-year-old cousin Dorit Enso were playing. Piercing the children's laughter, the Qassam rocket viciously tore through the Sukkah, killing Dorit and Yuval and injuring a score of others.

Qassam is Igal Hecht's up-coming short documentary about the city of Sderot and the lives of those who are affected by the Qassam rocket attacks. Qassam is filmed only three weeks after the murder of the two children, taking a close look at the uncertainty of daily life that has plagued the city in the last two years of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Qassam also investigates what the Gaza Disengagement plan might mean to the people of Sderot, and showcases the low-income city, home to many new immigrants, that has been forgotten by the Israeli establishment.
