Albeniz Sonata in D Major, recorded on June 4, 2007
MATEO ALBENIZ (1755-1831)
A Spanish composer and theorist. He was a noted chapel master in Lograno and San Sebastian. His sacred works enjoyed great success in his lifetime. He was the first theorist/teacher to print extended examples of Haydn and Mozart for students to imitate The Sonata in D, his only surviving keyboard work in a lively 6/8 tempo has all the hammer-stroke cadences and heel stomping rhythm of the Spanish Zapateado.

  • For some reason, there are several posts of this piece on youtube that attribute it to Issac Albeniz but this sounds so much like Scarlatti that it must have been from the baroque period.
