This is a video of my version of setting a rabbit snare...I was inspired to make this video and other videos, from a video I took of my father setting one last season. Check out my videos "Making a Rabbit Snare" and "Snaring Rabbits - Checking Rabbit Snares" The proof is in the pudding. It works!

When searching for an area to snare, if there is no snow, rabbit droppings are a great indicator of the presence of rabbits. The droppings are about the same size and shape of the candy "smarties", with a grainy texture.

You can also secure your snares to available cover if it is next to the area you selected to set the snare, rather than cutting and tieing to a tree limb.

Snare Hieght Off Ground: 3 inches (lower limit)... 8 inches (upperlimit) These ranges should cover most sizes of rabbit...Adjust for your individual situation.

I hope you watch and enjoy all my vids. I know I did making, setting, snaring, taping, putting together video clips, and of course eating rabbits lol!

If you happen to make some and set them, let me know how you make out.

Make sure your string is very strong. I like to use a braided twine that is treated with a non-slip coating to prevent knot slippage.

Always be repectful of land owners and get permission...Stay away from residential areas to avoid pets...Post your area to advise other hunters of your snares, and always respect the environment.

Never set snares until you know your local laws...You can do this by checking your local DNR...(Department of Natural Resources)

Be responsible and check them daily. Good luck in the woods!

The background music is from one of my favorite bands "Nazareth" The song is "Hair of the dog" Buy their stuff you'll love it.

Rabbit stew anyone? Maybe later I will do a rabbit recipe vid. There is more than one way to skin a rabbit. I am going to also make a "skinning a rabbit and field dressing a rabbit" vid once the season opens. Snaring rabbits is a great way to get out in nature and pass away the winter blues. • @torontobills I'm actually wearing coveralls with a white sweat shirt...You can see the coveralls better in my "Snaring Rabbits-Field Dressing a Rabbit" vid.

  • also, is there a vid of this after you caught something in it?

  • @timmay821 I would suggest setting it a bit higher off the ground...yes I made a video called "snaring rabbits- checking rabbit snares"

  • do you have to have a trapping licenese to set those not on your property cuz i dont want to get in trouble with the DNR!

  • @NandMscape Your best bet is to contact your local DNR...they can provide any answer to questions you may have...Laws differ from region to region.

  • Man your videos are really great, thanks for the info and tutorials!

  • I've never tailed snares like this before... just used picture cord or brass tied directly to the bender... what style of snare is this? looks like a twine / wire hybrid

  • @torontobills How does hunting have anything thing to do with clothing? Anyways good vid and best of luck-

    Hogan

  • Don't step on the rabbit run though, you'll get your scent on it and the rabbits won't run there anymore. space your legs over it so you don't disturb it, and tie your snare above it. like in the video.

  • I'm here because of the Hunger Games. I'm curious. :)
