the old testament/tanakh is pretty violent, but yes, the new testament is a radical departure from that. compare jesus christ and muhammad and you get two radically different pictures. ideas such as democracy and toleration are foreign to the islamic world, because many of them are still stuck in their 7th century jihad state. these people actually believe humans were literally created from clay. it's hard to believe their pre-islamic pagan ancestors were more tolerant than they are today.

The trouble is, all the evidence points in the other direction. Honour killings, domestic violence, stonings of adulteresses, terrorism, anti-Semitism, female genital mutilation, religiously-motivated violence (see Darfur, Algeria, Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan etc.), mutilation and lashings for criminals, persecution of homosexuals etc. etc. are all rife in the Islamic world. Words are cheap. The proof is in the pudding.

You are right, but I was thinking of the first few hundred years of Christianity compared to the first few hundred years of Islam. The difference between the two religions is that the Bible does not call upon Christians to spread the faith by the sword, whereas the Koran commands Muslims to wage war against the infidels until Islam reigns supreme.

None of the monotheistic religions spread completely peacefully.

with Christianity, which was spread by peaceful evangelism.

Mohammed then attacked the Banu Qurayza, another Jewish tribe, and slaugthtered all the 700 male prisoners. The females were led away into slavery. The pretext for all Mohammed's compaigns against non-believers was that they had conspired against Islam or resisted Allah's will. According to the Koran, unbelievers must be converted, made to the pay the jizya (poll tax), or killed. Islam was spread by the sword, in contrast

what?? how do you know that i dont know about my religion?? yes you are right about killing the nonbelivers, however thats only at war. we dont kill people for no reason. and muhammad (peace be upon him) did not commanded an army that plundered, raped, murdered and tortured. where did you get the info from?? He was marcyfull to the mankind.
Why say things that are not true. how would you feel if someone things about you that werent true? dont be mad, lets talk about the true. and see for oursef

You sound like a Muslim who doesn't know his own religion. Have you read the Koran? It says over and over to kill the infidel, kill homosexuals, kill apostates. Mohammed himself commanded an army that plundered, raped, murdered and tortured. He personally ordered people he regarded as his enemies to be killed. These included poets who had dared to poke fun at him.

not true. the holy koran does not teach violence, hate racism, xenophobia and incitement to murder, hatred of women, hatred of jews hatred to christians. as a matter of fact islam says to be nice to christians and jews and so on and so forth. and we love are womens so much to the extant that we go out and work in the burning sun while we keep them insaid the house to rest. please dont say things like that again because it is not true

Wow. Ben is really ignoring the facts. Like people hate for no reason and want to blow themselves up for no reason. years of us meddling in others ppls affairs causes problems, sanctions, military bases, bombing...how would we feel is Saudis had bases here, and were bombing certain religious areas...I think some anger would be created, yes? thus lead to acts of violence..any person with a little ounce of intelligence can come to this conculsion.
