A message from Steven G. Gabbe, MD, Chief Executive Officer, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center:
I am happy to announce that The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has received the 2013 University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) Quality Leadership Award. This honor recognizes that the performance of our Medical Center is among the top 10 of academic medical centers in the nation. What a great achievement for us to be ranked so high among our peers!
This award from UHC is especially important because it honors those outstanding performers at the top of its annual Quality and Accountability Study. This report ranks hospital systems based on publicly reported data for our Medical Center's performance in the areas of mortality, effectiveness, safety, equity, patient centeredness and efficiency.
The work we have done to decrease unplanned readmissions, reduce infections and limit medication errors are just a few examples of the many ongoing projects that have positioned us for continued success. This award is clearly a testament to our teamwork, working together to improve the quality of care we provide for our patients. We've accomplished this through thoughtful long-term planning that has focused on increased efficiencies, effectiveness and attention to value.
The net result has been to provide our patients with the highest overall quality of care.
