4/5/10 Rod Blagojevich Appears on Today Show After Celebrity Apprentice Firing

New York, N.Y. / With his trademark good humor and positive attitude, Rod Blagojevich visited NBC's TODAY following the former Illinois governor's termination from the network's CELEBRITY APPRENTICE reality show.

"For the first time in my life I can say I like the guy who fired me," Blagojevich said of APPRENTICE creator and host Donald Trump.

Blagojevich admits his approach to technology hindered his opportunity as Project Leader on Sunday's episode. With more than 12 years in politics, the former governor depended on others to take the reins for him on typing tasks and Internet communication.

But Blagojevich has already made strides - he now exchanges text messages with his 13-year-old daughter.

Last month Trump spoke with Matt Lauer about Blagojevich's role on CELEBRITY APPRENTICE's third season.

"The federal government tried to stop Rod from being on the show. But he has a lot of guts," said Trump.

Lauer asked, "Why did you want him on the show?"

Trump replied, "Controversy."

The former governor has steadfastly maintained his innocence. In Dec. 2008, federal prosecutors indicted Blagojevich on charges related to an alleged sale of Pres. Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat. Blagojevich has urged U.S. prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald to play secretly-taped phone conversations in full on which the politician's credibility is called into question.

Today Matt Lauer asked Rod Blagojevich about his upcoming federal trial, the former governor said he's looking forward to his day in court on June 3.

"I won't spend any time in federal prison because I did nothing wrong," he said. "Those tapes will vindicate me."
