This is part two of three of the video "Seeking The Tornado" (that's not its original name, for whatever reason the producers of this videotape decided to rename it. If you know what the original title of this film was please let me know). This is another storm spotter training video that features various tornadoes.

Part two includes footage of a mile wide tornado that occurred near Binger, Oklahoma on May 22, 1981. At the end of part two is extensive footage of a tornado's entire life span that concludes in part three.

There are some occasional glitches seen in the video because this tape is over ten years old and is quite worn, not to mention it runs at EP speed.

*UPDATED*

I'm going to attempt to identify which tornadoes are used in this video. Some of the tornadoes I don't know at all and will mark them with four question marks (????). Some of the tornadoes I'm not 100% sure about and will list what tornado I think it is but will place two question marks at the end (??). If anybody knows which tornadoes these are or if I labeled any of the tornadoes wrong please inform me so I can correct/update it.

0:00-1:18 Alfalfa, OK #2 5/22/1981
1:23-3:06 Binger, OK 5/22/1981
3:12-6:11 Ellis, KS 5/10/1985

*UPDATED (AGAIN)*

After some more research I finally found out where and when the last tornado seen in this clip occurred. It occurred near Ellis, Kansas on May 10, 1980. To read an account of the tornado go here: http://www.stormtrack.org/archive/0863.htm

  • Thank you, once, again, for posting these classics. They are the BEST! You, and your YouTube contributions are helping so many people become more aware of tornadoes -- and we all appreciate it :-)

  • Thanks Mr. Angus!

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • Binger's tornado was sick! A mile wide?!You don't see that every day.

  • Awesome video! My first time to see this; really informative and fascinating to watch! Thanks for posting!

  • The Binger tornado had winds of 217 MPH recorded in it. It may have been by NSSL's doppler b/c it was THAT close! The highest winds recorded until 1991.

  • FINALLY A VIDEO TO TRAIN STORM SPOTTERS! I am a storm spotter, but never saw a video.

  • The tornado starting at 3:08 was used in a tornado safety tips segment on WKBN-TV in Youngstown, OH from the 80s til about 1996...freaky to see it again LOL!
