Eon Trio plays Shostakovich Piano Trio No.2 in E minor, op. 67 II.Allegro con brio.
28 July 2007 @ Thailand Cultural Center
Christopher Janwong McKiggan, piano
Xiaoxiao Qiang, violin
Ekachai Maskulrat, cello

*When I did the pizz chord at 02:03, the C string came off the bridge! (notice, it didn't break) This happened in the first half of the concert as well (can see from "Sunyata" video). But it wasn't as obvious as in Shostakovich. I automatically move everything up and octave here(almost successful). Nothing could be worse than this accident except the cello exploded :)

  • OMG, this guy is so smart.. He can cover his accident by changing everything moving up an octave. So if the title of this video didn't deal w/, the audience hard to recogninze it.

  • i think you played it SO well even without your c string. so amazing =)

  • @tamegomaith93 Usually the string bass does that. Cello is like the baritone of the string ochestra.

  • You are a good musician, nice job!

  • @AlmaSchiwago Usually (not necessarily here) the cello plays bass lines...?

  • i didnt see what he did

  • Sometimes I think the cello has an inferior position in trios....that is only my impression...

the piano and the violin are very noticeable but the cello only sets a course....

correct me if I'm wrong! ;-)

  • That was beastly pizzicato. Well done!

  • No wonder it came off the bridge with such massive pizzicato strokes! Such excellent precision though! Never seen pizzicato done that way before!

  • wow, that's very clever of you.. i wouldn't even have noticed the mistake hadn't you written it!! I think it's very well played. not lacking in passion.

  • I think the expression "celebrate" doesnt fit...

Shostakovich wrote this trio 1944 (World war II) because of the death of a very good friend and aganist the anitsemitism (deportation of jews etc..) In my opinion this tior has to be played even more brutal and "devil-ish"

Even minute 1:39 (jewish theme) has to be played sarcastic and with more furious.
