http://www.AikidoMelbourne.com or http://www.RealLifeAikido.com. Children are able to throw opponents much larger and stronger than themselves using the art of Aikido with Mind and Body Unified, or Ki Aikido. Here, the girl gets out of the way of various strikes and leads her instructor into a fall or to the ground where she then securely pins him so that he cannot get up. Such is the grace and power of Aikido.

  • Your Iriminage (first technique in the video) has potential, but still needs work. But believe me, Iriminage isn't called the "twenty-year technique" for nothing. I am a sankyu in Aikido (Kumano Juku Dojo-Shingu) and I still have problems with it. But I might be able to offer some help.

    1) When he goes to grab your wrist, start fading away. This will draw him off balance.

    2) Step past him farther

    3) Keep his balance the whole time.

    4) Bend you knees more.

I hope this helps anyone reading this.

  • Thank you. In Ki Aikido, beginners DELIBERATELY start by letting uke grab their hands - if one can maintain mind/body unity and not collide with uke's grip, then leading uke under movement will be easier. Then they move on to the fluid form you describe. Indeed, Irimi-nage evolved into "Kokyu Nage" (quite a few throws called that in Ki Aikido). I read the "20 years" refers to the time Osensei devoted to developing it. Tohei Sensei then took it further to conform with the principles of Ki.

  • im a blue belt and a girl... why is she letting him grab her? at that grade she should be doing shomen and yokomen not gayaku

  • @eyore8 Thank you for your idea, eyore8. In Ki Aikido we begin with static grabs. Aikigirl is 7th kyu, not adult blue belt 2nd kyu. Later she will throw under movement. Watch my vid "Ki Aikido 5th Kyu Techniques" for our different levels. I'm not sure what you mean because she IS doing throws for shomen etc. in this video. In my experience with Ki Aikido and Aikikai, defences for hand grabs are practised even beyond black belt, but definitely under movement - you are right. Go Aikido Women!!

  • @eyore8. I thought it was a good demo. Sometimes grabs can be more difficult to defend against than strikes. As you progress in Aikido you will also find grabs as means to develop a skill to connect with Uke's ki. I've seen skilled black belts struggle with Kokyu Dosa because they don't understand the principles.

  • @ohawk1 Thanks. Yes, grabs can be very difficult, especially when your partner is holding with mind & body unified. We must also be so unified and then move respecting the direction of their power. Static grabs are in a way "the worst case scenario" - you must understand how to move without collision & create momentum. One must understand the principles of Ki and how they apply to Aikido in order to lead physically stronger ukes, or even worse, the calm, intent, relaxed ones!

  • @SamuraiOneCut You are absolutely right that she needs to lead me more, so that I am overextended. In Ki Aikido, uke practises keeping unified throughout the attack and at these early levels, it is easy for a skilled attacker to maintain balance. The emphasis is on uke keeping himself safe and extending Ki - then he can tell nage how to improve next time. Check out some videos of Tohei Sensei throwing people. Now that is leading! I will put up more vids as she progresses. Let's keep training.

  • @MarioGiMo Muchos Gracias, Mario. I will put some more videos up of her as she matures in Aikido. Everyone, have a look at MarioGiMo's channel - he has a very funny video of him (?) having a life or death match with Aikido children. Some unhelpful and unenlightening comments came, but I doubt those ideas are even worth responding to, so I just delete them. To me, Aikido is about acceptance and supporting each other. Mario is from a different style to us, but he confirms that we're all brothers.

  • I'm Surprised no one has come with rude comments...

GO GO !! Aikigirl! you inspire others to join , I guess that's the purpose of this video

2009? are you still training if so POST ANOTHER!! a new one wnat to se her when 16 or 20 with all aiki principles firmly rooted!! will be fearable!! Good job Instructor

  • She is just a kid, and has year of getting better ahead of her, bit why would you offer your hand out to an attacker?? Make him reach for it so he bends over taking him off balance. At no point is he ever off balance, so there is no reason to fall. She needs to slide in and take his balance. No attacker is gonna fall that easy. Just saying
