Animal Overpopulation is a numbers game, and it is an epidemic all over the United States. Let us help break it down for you in Maricopa County, Arizona.

() 275 animals enter open-admission shelters in Maricopa County alone every day.
() That totals out to 100,000 animals a year entering open-admission shelters in Maricopa County.
() Only 50,000 of those animals might make it out alive this year.
() 14,000 of the 50,000 are euthanized for easily treatable conditions; such as having a cold, being under 2 months old or under 2 pounds in weight, or being too shy.

The numbers are a bit staggering, aren't they?

85% of HALO's animals come from open-admission shelters. It is our mission to save those animals with easily treatable conditions; we strive to take in the ones that are sick, that are underweight or underage, and who are too shy or scared to thrive in an open-admission shelter.

We give them the comfort of a safe place to rest, fresh food and water, and medicine to replenish their health, room to play and space to grow, and most of all; we give them the courage to learn to love again.

Please help us end unnecessary euthanasia; not only here in Maricopa County, but in all counties across all states.

What can you do?
() Instead of purchasing your next dog from a breeder, adopt one from a shelter.
() Get your animals spayed and neutered and encourage others to do so as well.
() Volunteer your time with an animal shelter.
() Donate.

For more information, please give us a call or come down and visit our shelter.

  • I'm a volunteer at MCACC's West shelter. Yesterday I was working with two dogs who had been e-listed for being fearful. They were very skittish in their kennel, but perfectly fine once they had a chance to get out. All these dogs were guilty of was having a natural reaction to an unnatural situation, and they were going to die for it. Ugh. This job drives me nuts sometimes, but knowing that there are groups like HALO makes it a bit easier.

Great video, great organization. You guys rock. :)

  • @3LostDogs We have a very close partnership with Animal Care and Control, and both Animal Care and Control and HALO Animal Rescue are doing their best to end pet overpopulation. It all has to begin with the community; if everyone spayed and neutered their pets, open-admission shelters wouldn't have to needlessly euthanize treatable pets. So, spread the word - get 'em all fixed! And thank you so much for what you do for the dogs at Animal Care and Control!

  • Thank you for everything you do. Our Rocko a.k.a. Skippy is a Halo graduate and we love him dearly. Continue to do what you do. We support your mission!

  • God Bless you all!!!!!

  • You are earth angels. Thank you for all you do. the numbers are overwhelming and stagger the mind...and we need to keep bringing this to the attention of our lawmakers...spaying and neutering has GOT to be a law. PLEASE, do not buy from a breeder or pet store. I am just a single individual...with 9 adult cat rescues, and 5 dogs rescues...3 of the dogs are purebreds...NOT important to me...just pointing out that EVERY breed has a rescue group. Consider fostering, too.
