On an unseasonably mild day, EJ&E SD38-2's 665 and 660 lead the eastbound JSW2 (Joliet Switcher 2) through Crest Hill, IL., on the EJ&E Western Subdivision. The pair of SD38-2's pass by in full throttle, with that wonderful Leslie RS3L filling the air. EJ&E's in full throttle with that wonderful RS3L filling the air makes for the best sound in the world!

Scanner talk between the EJ&E Dispatcher and the crew of this train can be heard, as well as the EJ&E Defect Detector (from the time the lead engine hits the detector to the time when the last car hits the detector).

The trian is a good few miles away and you can still hear the engines throttling up. That is simply amazing!

This sure was very nice!

  • Nick,

Wow! This is a real slice of American railroading you caught here! Not just a runby of some hardworking locos (must be a healthy upgrade there!), but the HBD and radio chatter as the train moves from TWC to CTC territory, that great RS3L horn... all very very cool!

  • Thank you so much, Dave! I appreciate it very much.

I thought it'd be really cool to catch the defect detector as the train passed it. I'm glad that it worked out!

    Thanks so much again!

    Take care.

    Nick

  • Nice capture but it made me dizzy trying to watch. Get a tripod.

  • Despite the foul ranting there is a glimmer of truth; even an inexpensive tripod can turn a good video into a great one. Too bad motor-mouth cannot learn a little tact and diplomacy.

Where was this filmed? I grew up near the EJ&E, living in Romeoville but spending a lot of time in Lockport, Joliet, and Crest Hill. Love the work I've seen of yours so far; keep it coming!

  • Crummy video. Buy a tripod. Wasted bandwidth.

  • You might consider staying off the zoom too. One of my pet peeves is people constantly zooming in and out. Take a couple of the tips left for you hear and you'll be alright.

  • that horn needs to be replaced, its flat.

  • you really suck at holding a camera

  • get a tripod. nothing worse than the shakes..ruins a perfect video every time.

  • wow thats all 8 notches um ok

  • Nothing Like the J

  • I visited the #665 this weekend,, it was in Kirk Yard round house, is being totally refitted, only thing on it was cab housing,, the rest was being redone.
